CAF CC: Rivers United may host Young Africans in Port Harcourt after CAF inspection

By Monsurah Olatunji
Rivers United could make a return to their 48,000 capacity Adokie Amasiemaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, after CAF inspection ahead of their Confederation Cup quarter-final tie with Young Africans FC of Tanzania.
The Pride of Rivers were forced to play their hone matches at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, after their original home ground, Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt was certified unfit by CAF.
Following recent rehabilitations, Nasiru Jibril, CAF stadium inspector and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) top official has thumped up the venue, giving 75% pass mark after the latest round of stadium inspection.
“I think they have done tremendous work in the last couple of months. The stadium has worn new look between now and when I was here last time. It’s really very very impressive,” Jibril told local media.
“The dressing rooms have changed hugely, the reserved bench is acceptable anywhere in the world. The grass on the pitch is a lot better. Everything is like ten times better than it was two months ago. We have a checklist of what to look out for, and I think the stadium has ticked basically 75% of the requirements.
“As an inspector I don’t have the power to pass green light on the stadium and I am not expected to tell you the result of the inspection. I am not the one to take the final decision, mine is to send the pictures and videos to CAF and of course they will ask for my opinion before taking their decisions.”
The first leg of the encounter is set to hold in Nigeria on 23rd April while the second leg holds a week later on 30th April.
