By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Nigeria representatives at the 2023/2024 CAF Champions League, Enyimba FC, and Remo Stars now know their opponents ahead of the Preliminary Round of the competition.
The draw for the 2023/2024 CAF Champions League took place on Tuesday in Cairo, with the two Nigerian sides drawn against Ghanaian and Libyan oppositions.
Nigerian champions, Enyimba will face Ahli Benghazi of Libya in the first preliminary round over two legs.
The winner of the game will trade tackles with the winner of the tie between Cotton of Benin Republic and Asec Mimosa of Ivory Coast.
For Remo Stars, the Sky Blue Stars will play neighbours, Medeama SC of Ghana in the first preliminary round.
The victors of the two-legged tie will meet Horoya SC of Guinea in the second Preliminary Round.
Enyimba are making a return to the continent after missing out on qualification last season and will hope to rekindle the feat of back-to-back triumphs in 2003 and 2004 as former Nigerian international, Nwankwo Kanu replaced 20-year-old serving Felix Anyansi as the club chairman.
Remo Stars are in for their maiden appearance in the CAF Champions League after last season’s elimination in the first preliminary round of the second tier CAF Confederation Cup.
Hopefully, the experience from last season’s games in the CAF Confederation Cup will help Daniel Ogunmodede’s wards in good stead.
The two teams qualified for the CAF Champions League after their top two finish at the end of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Super Six in Lagos.
The first leg of the First Preliminary Round will hold from August 18 to 20 with the return leg slated for August 25 to 27.
