CAF Champions League: Rivers United advance after narrow win over Aigles du Congo

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Rivers United sealed passage into the second preliminary round of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League after a hard-fought 1-0 aggregate victory over DR Congo’s Aigles du Congo.
The tie was finely balanced after a goalless first leg in Kinshasa, but Stephen Manyo’s stoppage-time strike at the end of the first half proved decisive at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
Despite Aigles du Congo’s late pressure, Finidi George’s men held firm to secure the win and keep their continental dream alive.
Up next, Rivers United will battle Mozambique’s Black Bulls, who edged Congo Brazzaville’s AS Leopards 5-4 on penalties after their tie also ended goalless over two legs.
The victory means Rivers United join Nigerian champions Remo Stars, who eliminated US Zilimadjou of Comoros, in the next round of Africa’s elite club competition.
