CAF Confederation Cup: Yemi Olanrewaju acknowledges tough group for Enyimba
By Saheed Afolabi
Enyimba International head coach, Yemi Olanrewaju, has expressed concern over his club’s challenging group stage draw in the 2024 CAF Confederation Cup.
The People’s Elephants were drawn in Group D alongside Egyptian giants Zamalek, Al Masry, and Black Bulls of Zimbabwe, making it one of the toughest groups in the competition.
While Olanrewaju admitted that he had hoped for a less competitive group, he remains resolute about Enyimba’s commitment to the challenge ahead.
“We might have preferred a less challenging group, but true champions must be ready to face anyone,” Olanrewaju said, speaking to Flashscore.
“This is undoubtedly the toughest group in the competition, but this is Enyimba FC. We will do everything we can to uphold the club’s legacy and fight to advance.”
Despite the tough opposition, the coach is determined to maintain the winning culture that has defined the club’s rich history in African club competitions, having won the CAF Champions League twice, in 2003 and 2004 as well as the CAF Super Cup in both 2004 and 2005.
Olanrewaju and his team will be focused on navigating the group stage with the aim of continuing Enyimba’s tradition of excellence on the continental stage.
