Christy Ucheibe helps SL Benfica inch closer to UWCL knockout stage

Nigeria midfielder, Christy Ucheibe helped her Portuguese side, SL Benfica to a 1-0 win against German side, Eintracht Frankfurt in the 2023/2024 UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) Group A clash on Wednesday.

Ucheibe whose natural position is in the midfield played in the middle of the defence in a 3-4-3 formation as she paired Carole Costa and Lais Araujo.

After a goalless first half, the host broke the deadlock in the 71st thanks to Marie-Yasmine Alidou D’Anjou.

Ucheibe played full 90 minutes for the Portuguese champions against the second German team in the competition this season.

The win lifted SL Benfica to the second position in Group A with six points after three games.

Asisat Oshoala’s FC Barcelona top the log with a maximum of nine points.

Eintracht Frankfurt has three points while Swedish side and Halimatu Ayinde’s FC Rosengard is yet to register any point.

There are three more games before the end of the group stage with the top two teams making it to the quarterfinal.
