Christy Ucheibe’s brace fires SL Benfica to Algarve trophy

Nigeria midfielder Christy Ucheibe scored two late goals to lead the Portuguese side SL Benfica to a 4-3 win against Sevilla FC in the women’s Algarve trophy on Friday.

Cortes opened the scoring for the Spanish side in the 10th minute while Moral doubled the lead in the 23rd minute.

Five minutes later, Martin Prieto reduced the deficit for the Portuguese champions.

On the hour mark, Padilla Bidas restored Sevilla FC’s two-goal lead.

Three minutes into the second half, Benfica started a fight back as Carole Costa made it 3-2.

With the game approaching the endpoint, Ucheibe equalized in the 90th minute and scored the fourth goal for her side in the 93rd minute to complete the comeback.

The match will be Ucheibe’s first since returning to the team after representing Nigeria at the women’s football tournament of Paris 2024.

The Super Falcons lost all three group games against Brazil, Spain, and Japan at the Olympics.
