Cyriel Dessers remains optimistic at Rangers after Scottish Cup triumph

Nigeria international, Cyriel Dessers has reinstated his optimism to soar at Rangers after Scottish Cup final triumph.

The Super Eagles star was a whipping boy in the early part of the season but has however turned things around with goals in recent matches.

Dessers joined Rangers from Cremonese in August for a fee of about £4.3 million but has had a stuttering start to his career at Ibrox.

Despite his struggle, he is determined to keep the club on the trophy trail as the 29-year-old is adamant he always believed he would come good for the Gers and there is even more to come after winning the cup league.

“It felt amazing (winning the cup). When you arrive here at the club, you get a tour of the trophy room. At that moment you realize what this club is all about. To be here – after a few rocky months – felt amazing.

“It didn’t start this week for me. It started when the new gaffer came in and started to get new energy into the team. We started to play better and it’s easier for a striker to play in a team that’s in good shape.

“We are growing – and there is room left to grow and get even better. There were some hard moments, of course. But did I feel I could turn it around?

“Yes, actually. I had a similar situation at Feyenoord when we got to October or November and there were some rumours around me. At the end of the season, we got to the Europa Conference Final and I was the top scorer.

“There is a reason Rangers bought me and these qualities have not gone. I just need to show it on a weekly – or twice weekly – basis and continue to be important for Rangers.

“Did I think it was happening again? Almost! The keeper made a good save with his shoulder. It was an unbelievable save. I was just happy our skipper could finish the job.”
