By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Nigeria midfielder Ebere Orji was instrumental in helping her Swedish Elitettan side, Sundsvall return to winning ways with two goals as her team defeated Bergdalens IK 4-2 on Saturday.
Sundsvall had lost its previous five games in all competitions heading into Saturday’s away duel and has not won any match since August 16, 2022.
Swedish forward, Ida Akerlund opened the scoring for Sundsvall in the 18th minute to put itself in a vantage position for its first win in seven games.
Orji scored two goals in the space of 12 minutes in the first half to give her side a 3-0 halftime lead. The first goal came in the 23rd minute which doubled Sundsvall’s lead before scoring her second goal in the 35th minute.
Sundsvall were not satisfied with its three-goal lead and surged forward in a bid to increase its lead. The effort yielded a deserved result as Michelle Flores Rojas converted Sundsvall’s fourth goal in the 54th minute.
The fourth goal seemed to keep Sundsvall’s leg off the pedal as Bergdalens IK scored two goals courtesy of Loval Sternfeldt in the 58th and 87th minutes respectively. Sundsvall held on for its first win in seven games in all events.
Orji saw 80 minutes of action before she was replaced by Tilda Warulf after scoring her seventh goal in 22 Swedish Elitettan games this season. Sundsvall occupy the tenth position on the 14-team second-tier with 21 from 22 games.
The team will next welcome second-placed Upssala on October 15 after the next international window.
