Nigeria’s Onyi Echegini was the heroine as Florida State University (FSU) sealed a 2-1 win over Clemson in the final of the 2023 ACC Championship.

The Super Falcons player put up a player-of-the-match performance to ensure that her team clinched the title for the fourth consecutive season.

Echegini, who alread won the ACC Championship Offensive Player of the Season with 15 goals, opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a fantastic strike.

Mackenzie Duff, however leveled matters for Clemson in the 29th minute to end a nervy first half.

After the first half stalemate, Echegini slotted home the crucial winner from a close range in the 57th minute.

She played a full 90 minutes for her team, putting up a superb display in the final. Her superb performance also saw her emerge as the 2023 Ally ACC Women’s Championship Most Valuable Player (MVP).

With interest from European clubs after the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup coupled with her recent performance for FSU, it might not take a long time before she gets snapped up by a top team in the NWSL or Europe.
