Edema Fuludu: 1994 AFCON winner pessimistic about Nigeria’s fourth title quest

A member of the 1994 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) winning team, Edema Fuludu has expressed pessimism about Nigeria’s senior national team winning the next tournament in Ivory Coast.
The Super Eagles have been on a bad run of form after 1-1 draws with Lesotho and Zimbabwe in their first two 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
Despite having one of the deadliest attacks in African football, Fuludu is not confident Jose Peseiro’s side can win their fourth African title next year.
“AFCON is a very difficult tournament. On current form, Super Eagles do not look like a team that can qualify for the final of the AFCON and win it,” Fuludu told www totorinews.com.
“I based this on the form the team exhibited in their last two World Cup Qualifying games against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
“We need to rejig the team and remove complacency and overconfidence for the team to become Super at the AFCON tournament.
“Although, I will be glad if the team proves me wrong and win the AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast.” He concluded.
The Super Eagles will face Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, and host, Ivory Coast in Group A of the tournament.
After winning the title in 1980, 1994, and 2013, the West African side hopes to win it for the fourth time with the mantra “Let’s do it again”.
