Edo Queens reclaim 2023 Sheroes Cup title after victory over Naija Ratels

Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership side, Edo Queens pipped Naija Ratels FC 1-0 to clinch the 2023 Sheroes Cup title.

Emem Essien scored the winning goal for Moses Aduku’s side in the 38th minute to ensure the Benin Arsenals bagged the second after cinching the maiden edition of the women’s football pre-season tournament.

It also ended the team’s wait to reclaim the title after losing the last two editions.

In 2021, FC Robo Queens edged Edo Queens 1-0 in the final before Delta Queens inflicted another final injury on the Benin City-based side on penalties in 2022.

It was a dominant display by the Benin based club which scored 16 goals and conceded one, winning all five matches.

Edo Queens claimed all three individual awards up for grabs at the end of the competition.

Goalkeeper, Iyene Etim Sunday won the goalkeeper of the tournament, while Emem Essien smiled home with the highest goal scorer award while captain, Suliat Abideen won the most valuable player prize.

Sunshine Queens of Akure edged Honey Badgers took the bronze medal.

The 2023 Sheroes Cup of the sixth edition of the tournament formerly known as “The Flying Officers Cup”.
