Efe Ambrose Secures Place in Prestigious SPFL Team of the Week After Stellar Performance

Hibernian’s Nigerian defender, Efe Ambrose, has earned widespread acclaim after being named in the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) Team of the Week. This distinguished recognition, disclosed on the official SPFL website this Tuesday, reflects Ambrose’s outstanding display in a league clash against his former club, Celtic. Despite a 2-0 deficit, Ambrose played a pivotal role, contributing a crucial goal that ultimately led to a 2-2 draw.
This marked Ambrose’s debut goal for Hibernian in all competitions this season, further solidifying his impact since joining the club last summer from Celtic. The SPFL Team of the Week, structured in a formidable 3-4-3 formation, features Ambrose on the right side of a three-man defensive line.
In its assessment of Ambrose’s performance, the SPFL stated, “Four goals and plenty of thrills at Easter Road as Hibs and Celtic indulged in another titanic battle. While showing his usual confidence in possession, Ambrose also impressed in his defensive duties as Hibs fought valiantly against the might of Brendan Rodgers’ side. Then there was the centre-back’s goal, which got Hibs back into the match at 2-1.”
Ambrose’s journey from an initial loan deal with Hibernian in February 2017 to a permanent move last summer has been marked by consistent prowess on the field. Notably, he stands as the sole representative of Hibernian in the SPFL Team of the Week.
The full SPFL Team of the Week comprises:
Goalkeeper: Joe Lewis (Aberdeen)
Defenders: Kirk Broadfoot (Kilmarnock) Steven Anderson (St Johnstone) Efe Ambrose (Hibs)
Midfielders: Billy King (Dundee United) Prince Buaben (Hearts) Steve Hetherington (Alloa Athletic) Scott Sinclair (Celtic)
Forwards: Stephen Dobbie (Queen of the South) Gary Fraser (Montrose) Blair Henderson (Annan Athletic)
Ambrose’s inclusion in this elite lineup underscores his exceptional contributions and raises expectations for more stellar performances in the matches to come.
