Enugu Rangers invest in Green Foot Ladies ahead of continental assignment

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Rangers International FC, the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, have announced a significant step towards promoting women’s football by partnering with Green Foot Ladies in Enugu.

This collaboration aims to bolster the development of women’s football in the local community and aligns with Rangers’ commitment to inclusivity, excellence, and providing opportunities in the sport.

The decision to invest in Green Foot Ladies comes as Rangers International prepares to compete in the 2024/2025 CAF Champions League, where having a women’s football team has become a requirement set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

This directive is part of CAF’s broader efforts to enhance and expand women’s football across the continent.

Similar initiatives have been undertaken by other Nigerian clubs like Remo Stars, who adopted Lakeside Queens, and Enyimba FC, who established Abia Angels.

These clubs have integrated women’s teams into their structures, enabling them to participate in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership and fulfill CAF’s criteria for continental club competitions.

By embracing Green Foot Ladies, Rangers International not only strengthens their community engagement but also contributes to the broader goals of developing women’s football in Nigeria.

This strategic partnership underscores the club’s proactive approach in advancing both men’s and women’s football, aligning with global trends towards gender equality and sports development.
