Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka made a significant mark on Saturday as he registered his first-ever career goal with Brentford, helping them secure a crucial 2-0 victory over Sheffield United in the Premier League.
Onyeka, known for his defensive prowess with the Super Eagles, had been eagerly searching for his maiden Premier League goal for The Bees since joining the club three seasons ago.
The match, held at the GTech Community Stadium, witnessed a subdued first half as Sheffield United frustrated Brentford’s attempts to break through their defense.
However, Brentford’s determination intensified in the second half, ultimately paying dividends after the hour mark. One of their relentless attacks led to the opening goal, with Ollie Arblaster inadvertently turning the ball into his own net in the 63rd minute.
With victory within reach, Brentford’s manager Thomas Frank called upon Onyeka in stoppage time to replace Mathias Jensen. The Nigerian international seized the opportunity, firing home the winning goal just three minutes later.
The win marked Brentford’s first victory in their last nine Premier League games, propelling them to 14th place on the league table.
Frank Onyeka’s breakthrough goal not only secured three valuable points for Brentford but also served as a momentous occasion in his career, igniting celebrations among fans and teammates alike.
