Ex-Nigeria Duke Udi midfielder urges young footballers to emulate Luka Modric
By Wale Mustapha
Former Nigeria international, Duke Udi has enjoined young Nigerian footballers to emulate the lifestyle of Croatia and Real Madrid schemer, Luka Modric and become a better person in life.
Udi was full of praises for the Croatia captain following another impressive performance at 2020 FIFA World Cup and has recommended him for young players to emulate him.
The 37-year-old Modric led Croatia to third placed finish in Qatar after beating Morocco 2-1 in the third place playoffs.
His performance in 2018 World Cup where he guided Croatia to the final before losing to France helped him win the Ballon d’Or, making him the only player in over a decade to break the Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi dominance.
Duke Udi who is known as a controversial player during his playing days noted that Modric is a symbol of hope and inspiration any player must look after.
“He’s such a special football player, I watched him at the World Cup and he didn’t put a foot wrong or gave away the ball or wrong passes,” Duke Udi stated.
“He’s someone, I’ll recommend to young players for emulation. Modric has been playing at the highest level for years, yet no scandal, controversy or whatever.
“Not even Ronaldo and Messi can rival him when it comes to humility. He’s such a great example.”
Since leaving Tottenham in 2012, Modric has won five Champions League titles and two FIFA World Cup medals at Real Madrid.
