Fatai Osho blames strikers for Akwa United slip up at home against Sporting Lagos
By Wale Mustapha
Technical Adviser of Akwa United, Fatai Osho has attributed his side’s goaless draw against Sporting Lagos in the Nigeria Premier Football League encounter in Uyo, to profligacies of his strikers.
The Promise Keepers were expected to bounce back from their disappointing opening day defeat to Bayelsa United with the visit of the new promoted boys Lagos.
However, the hosts fell short of initiatives to break the defense of Sporting Lagos who were set up to secure a point in Uyo, no thanks also to miserable misses from Akwa attackers who fluffed series of chances created.
Osho who was disappointed with the result, has tasked his players to improve on their conversion rates even as he retained confidence in the team achieving greatness this campaign.
“Quite a disappointing game for us. We noticed the gaps in the first half blocked all the links and isolated the opposing players (Sporting) in the second half,” the former Kogi United and Remo Stars coach told media.
“It was almost a one-sided game, but the strikers let us down. The quality of the attack is worrisome and we are going to work on them. We hope for a positive result in our next game against Enyimba.”
Akwa United will next travel to Aba for their Matchday Three engagement with champions, Enyimba FC on Wednesday.
