FIFAWWC: ‘Consecutive wins a morale booster for Super Falcons’ – Tosin Demehin
By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Nigeria defender, Tosin Demehin says the recent consecutive victories against Haiti and New Zealand was a morale booster for the senior women’s national team ahead of this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Super Falcons recorded third win in a row against Costa Rica (1-0), Haiti (2-1), and World Cup co-host New Zealand (3-0) this month in Antalya, Turkey as Randy Waldrum’s side gear up for the global showpiece.
Judging by their recent surge, the Stade de Reims defender is confident the team will be fully ready for the 32-nation tournament in New Zealand and Australia.
“Three wins in three matches back-to-back-to-back. That alone has given us confidence ahead of the World Cup,” Demehin told Brila FM.
“A lot still needs to be worked on in the team and individually as players. We need to work more on our weaknesses and improve on the recent winning run.”
The Falcons have scored six goals in their last three matches, conceding only one. The West Africans excelled at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, where Thomas Dennerby led the team to the Round of 16.
This time, the nine-time African champions will fancy their chances of progressing from the group stages against against co-hosts Australia, the Republic of Ireland, and Canada in Group B from 20 July to 20 August.
