Former Celtic star backs Leon Balogun to earn starting role at Rangers

By Saheed Afolabi

Former Celtic player Frank McAvennie has thrown his support behind Leon Balogun to maintain his place in the Rangers starting 11.

Balogun showcased an impressive performance in Rangers’ 2-0 victory against Hearts in the Scottish Cup, drawing praise from McAvennie for his fantastic showing.

“Balogun played very well against Hearts. I don’t know what’s happened to Goldson, whether he’s been found out or if Clement is giving him a break,” McAvennie was quoted by Football Insider.

Expressing his confidence in Balogun’s abilities, McAvennie emphasized that the Nigerian defender should be given the nod to retain his place in the starting lineup.

“I think that Rangers fans will be frustrated if Goldson comes straight back in after Balogun’s performance now. Balogun was amazing, along with John Souttar,” he added.

As Rangers trail table-toppers Celtic by three points in the standings, maintaining a solid defense will be crucial for their campaign.
