Former Flying Eagles Forward Nwobodo Shines in New Role, Nets First Goal for Ujpest

Obinna Nwobodo, former Flying Eagles forward, showcased his attacking prowess as he scored his first goal of 2018 for Hungarian top-flight club Ujpest. Nwobodo, who recently transitioned to his preferred attacking midfield position, expressed satisfaction with his improved form in the pivotal role.

The 21-year-old forward, known for his contributions to Nigeria’s U-20 national team, played a key role in securing a 2-0 victory against Paksi SE in the second leg Round of 16, propelling Ujpest to the quarterfinals of the Magyar Kupa (Hungarian Cup) with a 4-0 aggregate score.

Patrik Tischler initiated the scoring in the 56th minute, setting the stage for Nwobodo’s crucial goal in the 86th minute. Nwobodo’s success comes after providing two assists in the team’s previous three games in 2018.

Reflecting on his recent performance, Nwobodo expressed enthusiasm about the positive turn in his career since moving to Hungary. He emphasized the impact of his shift to the midfield, stating, “I’m enjoying a new lease of life in my career since moving here. I discussed with the coach during the winter preparation and told him to try me in midfield, where I can fight more for the team and create more chances.”

Nwobodo, who narrowly missed doubling his goals tally due to a post denial in Tuesday’s game, sees a promising future in his debut European football season. He remarked, “The coach is satisfied with my performance in my new position, and I’m also happy because he now knows that I can do many things for the team as the number 10.”
