Former Royal Queens Stars Return to Inspire the Next Generation

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

In a heartwarming display of gratitude and solidarity, three distinguished alumnae of Royal Queens Football Club—Weyinmi Remilekun, Chika Idika, and Vera Samuel—made an inspiring return to their roots in Warri. Their visit wasn’t just a nostalgic homecoming but a heartfelt mission to uplift and empower the next generation of players at the club that launched their professional journeys.

Weyinmi Remilekun, now making waves at Racing Athletic Club Casablanca in Morocco, is celebrated for her tireless work ethic and commanding presence on the field. Her success abroad shines as a beacon of possibility for young Nigerian footballers dreaming of playing on the global stage.

She was joined by Chika Idika, a dependable midfielder currently with Delta Queens FC of Asaba. Renowned for her consistency and leadership in the NWFL Premiership, Chika fondly recalled her foundational years at Royal Queens, where she first honed the skills that now define her career.

Also present was Vera Samuel, a dynamic talent with Bayelsa Queens FC of Yenagoa. Known for her relentless energy and determination, Vera has quickly become a key figure in one of Nigeria’s top women’s teams. Her story—like those of her peers—underscores the power of resilience, hard work, and the right support system.

During their visit, the trio trained alongside the current Royal Queens squad, shared their personal journeys, and delivered powerful messages of motivation. In a touching gesture of support, they also donated kits, training equipment, and other essentials—affirming their commitment to nurturing the future stars of Nigerian women’s football.

At a brief ceremony held at the club grounds, Weyinmi Remilekun reflected:

“Royal Queens gave us the platform to believe in our dreams. Coming back here is our way of saying thank you—and reminding these girls that their dreams are valid too.”

Chika Idika added:

“We were once in their shoes—training hard, hoping to be seen. It’s our duty to help keep the ladder strong for those climbing after us.”

A visibly emotional Vera Samuel said:

“This club is more than a team; it’s a family. We owe our careers to the discipline and love we received here.”

The club’s management expressed immense pride in the accomplishments of their former players and praised their selfless act of giving back. As Royal Queens FC continues to serve as a vibrant cradle for emerging talent, the return of its stars stands as a powerful testament to the club’s enduring values: loyalty, excellence, and community.

As these remarkable women continue to excel on both national and international stages, their homecoming leaves a lasting legacy—an enduring source of hope and inspiration for every young footballer who wears the Royal Queens jersey.
