Nigeria’s Super Falcons are aiming to reclaim their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) crown at the 2024 tournament in Morocco, with veteran forward Francisca Ordega expressing confidence in the team’s chances.
The nine-time champions endured a disappointing campaign at the 2022 edition, also held in Morocco, where they lost three matches and finished in fourth place — their worst performance in recent history.
Speaking ahead of the upcoming tournament, Ordega said the team is determined to restore its dominance on the continent.
“The target is to win, of course! You can’t go into a battle expecting to lose, so the objective is to win and bring back the trophy,” said the Al-Ittihad Ladies winger.
Nigeria have been drawn in Group B alongside Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria. The Super Falcons will open their campaign against Tunisia on Sunday, 6 July, at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
The 2024 WAFCON marks a fresh opportunity for the West African giants to reassert their dominance after South Africa claimed the title in 2022.
