French Ligue 1: Magnificent Terem Moffi double lifts Lorient to second on the table

Lorient recorded a sixth successive victory in the French Ligue 1 for the first time in the club’s history, as a brace from red-hot Terem Moffi saw the team come from behind to beat Brest 2-1.

The defeat extended underwhelming Les Pirates’ winless run to seven games in the French topflight.

Brest were more than competitive in the first half. Following a vital intervention, the hosts went down the other end of the field and took the lead when Jere Uronen’a cross into the areas picked out Romain del Castillo, who adjusted superbly to ensure he got just enough power on his header to find the net and make it 1-0.

Regis Le Bris’s team can often count on man marksman Terem Moffi, and the forward got his side back on level terms with the half-hour mark approaching, when his shot from the right side of the area went in off the left post for his seventh goal of a stellar campaign thus far.

Lorient eventually went in front eight minutes after the restart when the ball fell to Moffi inside the area and he rolled it last Bizot to make it 2-1 with his second goal of the game.

Brest tried their best to find a way back into the game. But in truth, they never had enough quality in the final third, finding themselves rock bottom as a troubled season lurched to another low.
