George Aluo: NNL Chairman heaps praise on Abakaliki FC on President Federation Cup run

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The Chairman of Nigeria National League (NNL), George Aluo has lavished praise on Abakaliki FC for their remarkable journey so far in the 2025 President Federation Cup.

The Ebonyi state team stunned Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Ikorodu City FC 5-4 on penalties to seal a place in the final of the competition.

The victory marked yet another scalp for Abakaliki FC, a team that has beaten top-flight sides in this year’s tournament.

Aluo applauded the team’s resilience which had saw them book a grand finale date with another NPFL side, Kwara United.

“Abakaliki FC’s run is a clear statement that the NNL is producing quality football. This is not a fluke. They have beaten some of the best teams in the country and deserve to be where they are,” Aluo said

“They have shown resilience, technical quality, and mental toughness. I urge them to stay focussed and go all the way.”

Before getting to the President Federation Cup final, the NNL side showed top teams like Katsina United, Nasarawa United, and Enyimba FC the exit door.

With their giant-killing strides, Abakaliki FC has earned their place on the national stage.

A win over Kwara United in the final will write the Salt Boys’ names in the annals of Nigeria’s football history.
