George Finidi aiming to make Nigeria history with 2023 Africa Cup of Nations title

Former Nigerian international, George Finidi is hoping to make history by winning the 2023 African Cup of Nations, (AFCON) in Ivory Coast as a coach of Nigeria senior men’s national team.

Finidi was a member of the 1994 AFCON winning team in Tunisia where they defeated Zambia in the final and the former Real Betis’ winger is now as assistant coach with the Super Eagles.

After a 6-0 triumph over Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday, the Nigeria Premier Football League title winning coach revealed that the main focus from now is how to go to Ivory Coast and make an historic success on the continent.

“Every country wants to win the AFCON before it even started, but when you get there it all depends on how you start the tournament,” George told NigeriaFootball.ng.

“If you start well the confidence builds up, that will take you even further so we aim to win it, but you never know what can happen.

“We’ll go there with the mindset to win it. The first mission for the AFCON is to win it and it really mean well us a team and individually.”

Nigeria will be going to the tournament proper as one of the favorites regarding how they qualified for the mundial and the arrays of stars they possessed.
