Governor Sule reveals why Nasarawa United dropped from Nigeria Premier Football League
By Wale Mustapha
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has revealed that prosecuting home games away from home was major reasons Nasarawa United suffered relegation from Nigeria Premier Football League, (NPFL) last season.
The Solid Miners lost their 11 years top flight status during the 2022/2023 abridged league where they used three stadiums for their homes games as the Lafia Township Stadium was undergoing renovations.
The governor who revealed this during a courtesy visit to the president of the Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF) Ibrahim Gusau in Abuja, noting that playing without fans could dampen a teams morale to win matches.
He assured that the team will be given the needed supports and encouragement to secure promotion back to the NPFL as quickly as possible.
“The stadium is one of the reasons Nasarawa United got relegated last season when it was undergoing renovation,” Sule told media.
“I am on my feet to make sure the relegation does not proceed beyond one season. We don’t belong in the Nigeria National League, we belong up there in the Nigeria Premier Football League.”
The Solid Miners will participate in the Nigeria National League, (NNL) when the new season get underway.
