“I can’t wait to play in front of the fans” — Carney Chukwuemeka excited to join Burussia Dortmund

Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka is thrilled to join Borussia Dortmund on loan for the remainder of the season, marking the next chapter in his career.

The English midfielder of Nigerian descent reportedly turned down several Premier League offers, including interest from Everton and West Ham, to make the move to Germany. Dortmund had identified the 21-year-old as the ideal player to operate as a No.8, and he will now spend the rest of the season with the Bundesliga side.

Chukwuemeka was one of the first signings of the new BlueCo era at Chelsea, joining from Aston Villa in 2022. However, his game time under manager Enzo Maresca has been limited this season, with the midfielder featuring in just five matches — totalling a little over 120 minutes across all competitions — before agreeing to his move to Dortmund.

“It’s very exciting for me, and I’m truly honoured to be part of this great club,” Chukwuemeka said about his move. “I can’t wait to play in front of the fans at Signal Iduna Park and help us all be successful together.”

Dortmund, currently sitting 11th in the Bundesliga, are in the process of rebuilding after sacking head coach Nuri Sahin last month.
