The President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau has backed all Nigeria’s award nominees (men and women) when the Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards players for the best in different categories will be crowned in Morocco on Monday.
Goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, forward Asisat Oshoala, midfielder Deborah Abiodun, and striker Victor Osimhen are the four Nigerians plus Super Falcons in contention for various honours at the 2023 CAF Awards.
The NFF president said he expects all four different individuals representing Nigeria to become winners, insisting that luck will be on their side to win the awards.
“If you can go through the records, we have about four of our players involved,” Gusau told Brila FM.
“We have Asisat at the women’s side and our goalkeeper, Chiamaka, and younger Deborah.
“By the grace of God, I will be in Morocco to see how we can support them and whatever we can to make sure the Nigeria is written in gold.
“It’s quite a long time since we won the award for men. I think the last one was Nwankwo Kanu. By the grace of God, I know this time around we are going to smile.”
It has been 24 years since Nigeria last won the men’s Player of the Year award.
Oshoala has won the women’s player of the year five times and is in pole position to win the prize again this year.
