Son of 1985 title-winning former Nigeria U17 coach Sebastian Broderick-Imasuen, Chuka Imasuen says his father has been suffering from stroke and diabetes.
Broderick is a former Nigeria international who starred as a midfielder for the Green Eagles and Chuka has revealed that the family has spent millions on the ailment of his 84-year-old father before making it public to ask for support.
Explaining Broderick’s ill-health situation, he told Completes Sport: “He is currently at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. He had a partial stroke sometime last year, but it has deteriorated to a full stroke. He is also managing diabetes as well. Currently, he can’t communicate properly.
“We have done series of tests, it’s something that has to do with his brain. He is incoherent and unconscious. He is on oxygen at the moment. We are hoping for the best. It’s not been easy. He is on drugs because of diabetes.”
During his playing days, Broderick represented Nigeria at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico. He also played for Bendel Insurance which his free-kick goal ensured they won the 1972 Challenge Cup, beating Mighty Jets 3-2 in the final played in Ibadan.
Chuka added that the family has reached out to the Edo State Government, but are yet to receive any support.
“The doctors said his lung is weak and he can’t breathe on his own, so they have to put him on oxygen,” he continued.
“The Edo State Government is aware of his condition. They keep telling us that they will reach out to us, but we are yet to hear from them.
“We would like to say a big thank you to one of his former players, Kayode Keshinro. He has been of great support so far. We hope others can come out and lend their support to us.”
Broderick-Imasuen also served as an assistant coach in Super Eagle during Clemens Westerhof’s time as the  Technical Adviser.
