‘It was extraordinary and indescribable’ – Gambia star Dampha reacts to Nigeria win

The Gambai goalkeeper, Pa Ebou Dampha has described the 1-0 victory against the Flying Eagles as an extraordinary achievement.

The Young Scorpions  dashed the Flying Eagles’ dream of reaching the U20 AFCON final for the 10th time as they in the semifinal played at the Cairo International Stadium in Egypt on Monday.

Adama Bojang seventh minute strike secured victory for The Young Scorpions against the wasteful star-studded Nigerian side and excited shot-stopper admitted the mood and joy in the Gambian team was indescribable.

“It was extraordinary and indescribable what we are going through and what we achieved,” Dampha told media.

“I’m proud to be Gambian, proud of our solidarity on the pitch and proud of the coach.”

Following the triumph, Gambia have set up a final date with regional rivals Senegal in what will be a WAFU-A final rematch on Sunday.

Having lost the regional tournament to the Senegalese, the young goalkeeper who is yet to concede a goal in the tournament insists a final rematch with the Young Terranga Lions is a must win.

“We are in the final, we are there now, we have to win this derby against Senegal. Gambia and Senegal are the same country.”
