Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has lauded Fulham’s Alex Iwobi, praising the Nigerian midfielder for being in the best form of his career.

Iwobi has been a standout performer for Fulham, showing his versatility with strong contributions both in attack and defence.

The two sides clashed over the weekend, with Manchester City emerging victorious in a 3-2 thriller at the Etihad Stadium. Fulham struck first through Andreas Pereira in the 26th minute after City had threatened on several occasions.

However, Mateo Kovačić equalized shortly afterward, and then scored again two minutes into the second half to give City the lead.

Fulham continued to impress, going close to equalizing on a couple of occasions, but City’s summer signing, Jeremy Doku, sealed the win with a superb third goal.

Rodrigo Muniz pulled one back for Fulham in the 88th minute, but the defending champions held firm to secure the win.

Despite the loss, Fulham have had a solid start to the season, currently sitting eighth in the Premier League with 11 points from their first seven games.

Guardiola, while speaking in his post-match press conference, praised Fulham’s overall attacking threat and singled out Iwobi for special recognition.

“Fulham have a lot of weapons and speed. I have never seen Iwobi in the form he is playing right now,” Guardiola said, highlighting the midfielder’s impressive performances.

Iwobi’s current form will certainly be a source of encouragement for Nigeria’s interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen, as he prepares to lead the Super Eagles in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Libya later this month.
