Super Eagles midfielder Joel Obi has been sidelined from Torino’s Serie A away match against Atalanta on Sunday due to injury, as reported by Completesportsnigeria.com. Obi, who recently made a return to the Super Eagles squad after a four-year absence, is set to miss the upcoming clash due to an Iliopsoas (anterior hip muscle) injury, according to toro.it.
The 26-year-old Nigeria international is scheduled to undergo tests in the next 10 days to assess the extent of his injury. Obi came on as a substitute in the 57th minute in Torino’s recent 1-1 draw with AC Milan but had to be substituted himself in the 79th minute due to the injury. Afriyie Acquah replaced him in that match.
Throughout the current Serie A season, Obi has been a regular presence for Torino, making 22 appearances, scoring five goals, and providing two assists. Despite his absence, Torino will aim to secure a positive result against Atalanta as they currently occupy the 10th position in the Serie A table with 37 points from 33 games. With four matches remaining in the season, Torino will be looking to finish on a strong note.
