John Obi Mikel drops possibility of Victor Osimhen’s Napoli exit

By Monsurah Olatunji
Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has weighed in on the ongoing speculation surrounding Victor Osimhen’s potential move this summer.
Osimhen, who was instrumental in leading Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years and was named CAF Player of the Year in 2023, has attracted significant interest from top clubs including Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), and Arsenal.
Mikel Obi, speaking on BeIN Sports, shared his insights and personal involvement in the transfer discussions.
He suggested that Chelsea is in a strong position to secure Osimhen’s signature. “I think it’s 60/40 in favor that Osimhen comes [to Chelsea],” Mikel said.
“I think so, he wants to come. I’ve sent a few text messages here and there, told him that it’s a great club and city, and he would like to follow in the footsteps of other Nigerians to play for Chelsea.”
Osimhen’s future remains uncertain as he continues to be excluded from pre-season activities under new Napoli manager Antonio Conte, and was notably absent during Napoli’s 3-0 defeat to Hellas Verona in their Serie A opener.
While Chelsea appears to be a strong contender for his signature, PSG may also renew their interest following an injury to their forward Goncalo Ramos.
With these developments, Mikel Obi’s endorsement could be a key factor in influencing Osimhen’s decision, potentially tipping the scales in favor of a move to Stamford Bridge.
