Josh Maja set for 2025/26 return after injury blow, confirms West Brom boss

By Dayo Awoniyi

Nigerian striker Josh Maja is on track to return for West Bromwich Albion in the 2025/26 season following a lengthy injury layoff, manager Ryan Mason confirmed this week.

Maja, 26, was sidelined for nearly half of last season due to a long-term injury, a setback that proved costly as West Brom narrowly missed out on a Championship playoff spot.

Before his injury, Maja had scored 12 goals in 26 appearances, making him the club’s top scorer despite missing the final 20 matches.

He was also the second-highest scorer in the league at the time, behind only Norwich City’s Borja Sainz.

Speaking during a pre-season media session, Mason expressed optimism about Maja’s recovery process.

“Josh is progressing well and working through a personalised rehabilitation programme,” Mason said.

“The aim is to integrate him gradually into full training over the next few weeks.”

Maja has yet to rejoin full team sessions but is expected to ramp up his fitness work and begin contact drills as his recovery advances.

Club medical staff are reportedly satisfied with his progress and are managing his return cautiously to prevent setbacks.

His anticipated comeback is seen as a significant boost for the Baggies, who are hoping to mount a serious promotion challenge in the upcoming season.

With Mason overseeing preparations and Maja nearing full fitness, West Brom fans have reason to believe the club can push for a top-six finish—or better—in the 2025/26 campaign.
