Official: Birmingham City sign Bright Osayi-Samuel from Fenerbahçe

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye

Birmingham City have completed the high-profile signing of Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel following the expiration of his contract with Turkish giants Fenerbahçe.

The 26-year-old has signed a three-year deal that will keep him at St. Andrew’s until the summer of 2028—a move that underlines the club’s ambition to return to the Premier League.

Speaking on his decision to join Birmingham, Osayi-Samuel highlighted the club’s vision and the role he hopes to play in their journey:

“I think it’s the project,” he said. “I spoke to the owner and the manager, and it’s clear they have real ambition—not just to compete, but to get back to the Premier League immediately. Those are my ambitions too.”

“I want to play in the Premier League and show everyone what I can do, and Birmingham City are giving me a platform to do that. That’s why I’m here.”

Osayi-Samuel brings a wealth of experience to the Blues, having made 126 appearances for Fenerbahçe since joining from Queens Park Rangers in January 2021.

Known for his pace, adaptability, and attacking instincts, the Nigeria international has featured in various roles—from full-back to winger.

His time in Turkey also includes appearances in UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League matches, making him one of the more seasoned additions to Birmingham’s squad this summer.

With this acquisition, Birmingham City continue to strengthen their ranks ahead of the new season, sending a strong message of intent as they prepare to challenge for top-flight promotion.
