Joy Omewa nets 17th goal of the season in Fortuna Hjørring’s loss to Odense

By Dayo Awoniyi

Nigerian forward Joy Omewa continued her sensational form in the Danish Elite Division on Saturday, scoring her 17th goal of the season as Fortuna Hjørring fell 2-1 to Odense in a closely contested Championship Group Round 5 clash at the Nord Energi Arena.

The 22-year-old struck in the 18th minute to level the game after Rylan Childers had given Odense an early ninth-minute lead.

Omewa’s goal—her third in as many matches—brings her tally to 17 goals and five assists in just 19 appearances across all competitions, the highest goal contribution total in the league this season.

Despite a strong second-half showing from Fortuna Hjørring, Odense found a breakthrough in the 80th minute through Dikte Bang, sealing the win in what was a tightly fought encounter.

Omewa’s consistent brilliance has been a standout for Fortuna this season. She now leads the club’s scoring chart by seven goals, underlining her importance to the league leaders.

Despite the setback, Fortuna Hjørring remain at the summit of the standings with 44 points from 19 games, holding a commanding 10-point lead over nearest rivals Nordsjaelland.

Fortuna Hjørring will look to bounce back when they face Koge Ladies on Sunday, May 4, as Omewa seeks to continue her remarkable run of form.
