Nigerian football star Joy Omewa has been named the Danish Women’s League Player of the Season for 2024/25 after a stellar campaign with Fortuna Hjørring, capping off her achievement with a brand-new Mercedes Benz as part of the award.

The Mercedes Benz part of the award is a one month ride for the player.

Omewa, just 22 years old, played an instrumental role in leading Fortuna Hjørring to a domestic double, winning both the Danish Championship and the Cup.

Her impact on the pitch was undeniable—she finished the season as the league’s top scorer, netting 22 goals and providing 4 assists in just 23 matches.

Born on December 1, 2002, Omewa has long been recognized as a standout talent, having previously represented Nigeria at U-17 and U-20 levels.

Now, her consistent performances and relentless drive are earning her recognition on a bigger stage.

Omewa primarily operates as a center forward, but her tactical flexibility also sees her thrive as a second striker, supporting the attacking line with intelligent runs and incisive playmaking.

Known for her blistering speed, creative finishing, and sharp off-the-ball movement, she’s often described as a nightmare for defenders.

Fortuna Hjørring’s head coach Lene Terp praised her star forward, saying, “Joy is sharp and clever—her movement and decision-making set her apart. She’s a striker any team would be lucky to have.”

Her 2024/25 season not only solidifies her status as one of Nigeria’s brightest footballing exports, but also places her firmly on the radar of top European clubs.
