Kevin Akpoguma: Nigeria defender makes Bundesliga Team of the Week

Nigerian defender, Kevin Akpoguma has been rewarded with his impressive performance for his German side, TSG Hoffenheim as he was named in the German Bundesliga team of the Week on Saturday.
Akpoguma was a trojan in defense for Hoffenheim as they humbled Union Berlin 3-1 thanks to a brace from Adrej Kramaric and the other from Togolese Ihlas Bebou.
The hosts were almost coasting home with a clean sheet but were denied the chance by Stefan Jovetic’s late goal for Union Berlin.
Akpoguma won five aerial duels with accuracy of 74.3 percent of his passes, while making 55 touches was named in the WhoScored’s German Bundesliga 4-4-2 formation team of the week.
He’s paired in the central defense by former Arsenal center back, Konstantinos Mavropanos who now plays for Stuttgart and was instrumental to his side’s 1-0 win over Wolfsburg.
The Team of the Week is dominated by Borussia Dortmund who have contributed half of the outfield players including Donyell Malen, Raphaël Guerreiro, Jude Bellingham, Marco Reus and Sébastien Haller following their 6-1 hammering of FC Cologne.
Akpoguma who has teamed up with rest of Super Eagles’ team for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers registered an impressive ten tackles, made two clearances and one block over the course of ninety minutes against Union Berlin.
The Super Eagles’ defender has being a key member of Hoffenheim’s backline, having started five of their last six games before the international break.
