Sevilla manager Garcia Pimienta has provided clarity on why Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho was left out of the matchday squad during his team’s 1-1 draw against Osasuna on Sunday.
The Super Eagles winger remained on the bench for the entire match, with Pimienta originally planning to bring him on in the second half.
However, injury setbacks to Sambi Lokonga and Lucien Agoume forced the manager to alter his plans.
“I would have liked to have everyone available and would have brought on more players if I could,” Pimienta explained. “But Kelechi couldn’t come on because of Lokonga’s discomfort, and Agoumé had to take his place.”
Pimienta also praised the contribution of Saúl, who played a key role after being introduced.
“Saúl is a very experienced player. He came to help and contribute in important ways. He had a very good recovery process and played well in a challenging situation,” he added.
Iheanacho, who joined Sevilla on a free transfer this summer, has made seven league appearances for the Rojiblancos so far this season.
