Sporting Lagos FC Secures Historic Return to Nigeria Professional Football League

Sporting Lagos Football Club have officially secured promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), completing a determined and impressive journey back to Nigeria’s top-tier football after a two-year absence.

The Lagos-based side clinched their promotion with a crucial 1-0 victory over Osun United, a result that proved decisive in a tightly contested race. That win allowed Sporting Lagos to finish top of their group, edging out close rivals Akwa United by just one point.

This achievement marks a major turnaround for the club, which had narrowly missed promotion during last season’s NNL Super 8 campaign. Learning from that setback, the team returned stronger, more focused, and fully committed to achieving their objective this season.

Sporting Lagos’ promotion is not only a triumph for the club but also a significant boost for football in Lagos State. With Inter Lagos FC already promoted and Ikorodu City competing in the top division, Lagos will now boast three teams in the NPFL, further strengthening its influence in Nigerian football.

Throughout the campaign, Sporting Lagos demonstrated consistency, resilience, and tactical discipline. Their ability to secure results in crucial matches, including the narrow win over Osun United, highlights the team’s maturity and readiness for top-flight competition.

The promotion has been met with excitement from fans, stakeholders, and the wider football community, many of whom view Sporting Lagos as a club with the structure and ambition to make a lasting impact in the NPFL.

As the team prepares for life back in the elite division, attention will shift to squad strengthening, strategic planning, and maintaining the momentum that brought them success.

Sporting Lagos return to the NPFL not merely as participants but as a club eager to compete, grow, and establish themselves among Nigeria’s football elite.
