Nigerian forward Umar Sadiq came off the bench to score a vital equalizer as Valencia held Rayo Vallecano to a 1-1 draw in a LaLiga Matchday 32 clash on Saturday.
The match, played at the Estadio de Vallecas, saw the hosts dominate early proceedings, creating multiple scoring chances but failing to convert.
Their persistence eventually paid off late in the first half when Valencia defender César Tárrega inadvertently turned a cross into his own net, giving Vallecano the lead.
Rayo Vallecano continued to push for a second goal after the break, but a lack of clinical finishing proved costly.
Valencia capitalized on the missed opportunities in the 75th minute.
Sadiq, who had been introduced in the 66th minute, made an immediate impact by calmly slotting home the equalizer past the Rayo goalkeeper — his fifth LaLiga goal in just 10 appearances for Los Che this season.
The result dealt a blow to Rayo Vallecano’s aspirations of qualifying for European competition, as they missed a chance to climb the table.
Meanwhile, Valencia extended their unbeaten run in the league to seven matches and remain comfortably mid-table.
Sadiq’s consistent scoring form continues to boost Valencia’s attack, and the Super Eagles striker is fast becoming a key figure in their push for a strong season finish.
