‘Look at our players’ exploits’ – Obafemi rates Nigerian football above Senegal

By Wale Mustapha
Former Nigeria International Abiodun Obafemi feels that there’s nothing for Nigeria to learn from their West African counterparts Senegal despite their all-around football successes on the continent.
Senegal are enjoying a remarkable dominance in the continent’s football, having won the Africa Nations Cup in 2022 and recently added the African Nations Championship as well retained the African Beach Soccer Cup of Nations.
Obafemi, a former Super Eagles’ defender insists that Nigeria still hold higher status among the top football nations in Africa, stressing that the country’s only required sound and working administration to dominate again.
“Honestly we are not under pressure, our status remains Even when we are not doing well; unable to build a solid National team, yet nobody will argue against our quality,” Obafemi told Brilla FM.
“The stats are there for all to see, we are talking about a country that is blessed with quality players. Nigeria is number one in Africa, so we have no reason to fear anybody.
“Look at our players’ exploits in Europe, their present form in Europe. Honestly, all we just need to do is get it right.
“Of course, I envy Senegal. They have a very good structure, the good work their FA put in these last four years is what they are reaping now, and honestly, we are not far from there, we just need to get it right,” he concluded.
