Mavlon FC of Lagos has terminated the contract of player Shedrack Dominic following allegations of fraud involving ₦1.5 million.
According to the club, Dominic allegedly defrauded a football enthusiast by claiming the money was meant for flight tickets and logistics for supposed trials in Europe.
He reportedly went further to claim online that he was undergoing trials with Italian Serie A side Empoli FC and was close to signing a contract — a claim the club has dismissed as entirely false.
Club chairman Barrister Kenneth Agadagba condemned the player’s actions, stressing that Mavlon FC does not collect money from players or individuals for trials or travel opportunities.
“We cannot tolerate any act of fraud — call it yahoo, 419, or scam. Mavlon FC funds all legitimate trips and scholarships for our players,” Agadagba stated.
He revealed that Dominic even impersonated him in online chats to deceive the victim, leading to his immediate dismissal once the misconduct was uncovered.
Agadagba added that Dominic’s social media posts claiming to be in Europe were fabricated, confirming that the player was still in Lagos at the time.
Reaffirming the club’s commitment to integrity and youth development, the Mavlon chairman cautioned the public against any dealings with Dominic in the club’s name and warned that legal action could follow if he continued using the club’s identity for fraudulent purposes.
