Middlesbrough’s Coburn reveals Chuba Akpom’s secret to fine Championship outing

By Wale Mustapha

Middlesbrough star Josh Coburn has opened up on the Chuba Akpom’s record breaking outing in the English Championship this season

Coburn has been Akpom teammate until the start of the current campaign when he left the Riverside Stadium on loan with Bristol City.

While on the Boro’s preseason training tour with Apkom where they went through rehabilitation together and the Arsenal Academy product turned out a revelation for Michael Carrick’s side, with 28 goals.

And the forward feels the Nigerian born’s breakthrough season was due to his extra commitment and dedication.

“He was in the gym every day. I knew he was going to have a good season. Obviously, I didn’t expect him to have this good of a season, but he’s a top, top player, and hopefully he gets over the 30 goals mark,” Coburn told media.
“I think the style of play, Warnock compared to Carrick’s, is different, and now it’s just clicked for Chuba, he worked so hard to try and get back as quickly as possible,” he said.

With one game remaining in the regular season against Coventry, Akpom is on course to win the Championship’s golden boot award which will be added to his award as Championship player of the season.
