Mikel Eager for Oscar Reunion as Ighalo Seeks to End Goal Drought in China

Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel is set to make his 20th appearance for Tianjin TEDA in a Chinese Super League clash against Shanghai SIPG on Sunday. Completesportsnigeria.com reports that Mikel, who has featured in six games this season, scoring a goal and providing an assist, is anticipating a reunion with his former Chelsea teammate, Oscar, who now plays for Shanghai SIPG. Mikel expressed his anticipation on Twitter: “Looking forward to Shanghai and facing my old friend and teammate @oscar8!”

Oscar has been influential for Shanghai SIPG, contributing six assists in the current season. Tianjin TEDA currently sits in ninth place in the CSL table with eight points from six league games.

In a separate fixture, Mikel’s compatriot Odion Ighalo aims to rediscover his goal-scoring form as he makes his seventh start for Changchun Yatai in an away game against Guizhou Zhichen on Saturday. Ighalo has faced a goal drought in his last three games, with his last goal coming over a month ago against Beijing Renhe.

Changchun Yatai is currently positioned 13th in the CSL table with five points from six games. As Mikel and Ighalo take the field in their respective fixtures, they seek to make positive contributions to their teams’ campaigns in the Chinese Super League.
