Mission X: Justine Madugu Confident Super Falcons Will Keep Improving After Win Over Ghana

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu says Nigeria’s women’s team will continue to improve, despite a convincing 3-1 win over Ghana’s Black Queens in a friendly match held in Casablanca on Sunday.

Goals from Chinwendu Ihezuo, Asisat Oshoala, and Rasheedat Ajibade sealed the win.

Madugu emphasized the importance of team cohesion and ongoing development as they prepare for their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) opener against Tunisia on Sunday.

He praised the players’ determination and team spirit, describing the performance as part of the larger “Mission X” objective.

“The match gave us the opportunity of having the full squad together to really assess our strength as a team, and build on team cohesion, coordination and on various combinations.

“It will always be work in progress, but we are very focused on our realisable and achievable target of Mission X. The girls are ready and are showing real hunger for victory and team spirit is high. We are looking forward to our first match on Sunday against Tunisia.”

The victory adds to Madugu’s impressive record, having led the team to key wins against Ethiopia, Cape Verde, Algeria, Cameroon, and a draw against Portugal.

Despite the success, he insists the squad remains a work in progress, with a focus on refining their weak points ahead of the tournament.

“We will continue to work on our weak areas, and I believe that by the time of our first match, we will be ready,” Madugu added.

The nine time African champions are up against Algeria, Tunisia, and Botswana in the group stage of WAFCON 2024 in Morocco.

South Africa are defending champions after Banyana Banyana clicnhed their maiden WAFCON title in Morocco three years ago.
