Nigeria captain Ahmed Musa has denied news making the rounds that he has retired from the national team.
The former Kano Pillars player has not played for the Nigeria senior men’s national team since January 2024.
At the last Africa Cup of Nations, the former Leicester City player didn’t play any of the three-time African champions’ seven games on their way to a silver medal feat in Cote D’Ivoire.
He last featured in a pre-AFCON friendlies against Guinea where he saw seven minutes in January this year.
His non-inclusion in the team’s last two FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against South Africa and the Benin Republic gave some indications that he might be off the team’s radar.
Musa denied the retirement rumours while speaking with the media during a friendly match he organised.
“I only took a brief break from the national team. I have not retired,” Musa told pressmen in Kaduna.
Since the termination of his contract with Turkish side, Sivasspor in February, he has been without a club.
Musa remained the Super Eagles’ top goal scorer at the FIFA World Cup with four goals.
