Nigeria Premier Football League announces tentative kick-off date for 2024/25 season

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has announced a tentative kick-off date for the 2024/2025 season.

According to an update on the league’s social media handles, quoting the league Chairman, Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye, the new season is scheduled to begin on August 31, 2024.

This announcement follows the conclusion of the 2023/2024 season, where Rangers International were crowned league winners in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

The proposed kick-off date is tentative and may be subject to change due to various innovations and circumstances. The announcement of kick-off dates for the NPFL has seen frequent changes in recent years, often disrupting the preparation schedules of teams participating in continental competitions.

These teams often face match rustiness due to the delayed start of the league, relying instead on training and friendly matches to prepare for the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

For the upcoming continental competitions, Rangers International and Remo Stars, the top two teams from the NPFL season, will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League.

Enyimba International FC and the winner of the 2024 President Federation Cup final between Abia Warriors and El-Kanemi Warriors will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.
