Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) goalkeeper trainer, John Dosu has advised the coach of Nigeria’s senior men’s national team to include a home-based goalkeeper in the squad for next year’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Jose Peseiro is faced with serious concerns ahead of the continent’s showpiece following the poor displays of the foreign based goalkeepers in recent matches, especially the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

In the wake of this, the Portuguese tactician has included three out of the six goalkeepers in the 40-man provisional squad for AFCON 2023 from the Nigerian Premier Football League. They are Ojo Olorunleke (Enyimba FC), Christian Nwoke (Sporting Lagos), and Amas Obasogie (Bendel Insurance), joining foreign stars trio of Francis Uzoho (Omonia FC), Adebayo Adeleye (Hapoel Jerusalem), and Stanley Nwabali (Chippa United).

And the former Nigeria international has tasked Peseiro on invest trust in home-based goalkeeper at the 2023 Afcon.

“We have good goalkeepers in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) which I have seen so far,” Dosu told Brila FM.

“I have seen Amas Obasogie, Osayi Kingdom, Ojo Olorunleke, and other talented goalkeepers.

“I am only waiting for Peseiro to release his 27-ma squad. Let’s see how many goalkeepers from the home base that can make up the team.”
