Nigerian clubs should elect league boards’ – Emmanuel Zira rejects NFF president’s plot

By Wale Mustapha
Emmanuel Zira has offered his suggestions on how best the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF can run a veritable leagues in the country.
ira who has served in various capacities as club football manager in Nigeria opined that one of the best ways to run a successful league is to ensure various leagues to legitimately elect those who will pilot their affairs.
Zira in an interview noted that the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, Nigeria National League, NNL, Nationwide League One, NLO and Nigeria Women Football League, NWFL should take a cue from the State Football Associations, Nigeria Football Coaches Association, Nigeria Referees Association and other components of the country’s football structure by electing executive of the leagues’ hierarchy.
While toeing the path of NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau’s on stopping clubs officials from subsequently running the leagues, Mr. Zira said anybody aspiring to lead or be part of the league board must resign club position but the clubs must be fully involved in deciding who governs the leagues.
Mr. Zira who has served as chairman of Adamawa United and Adamawa Queens also advised the NFF to conuct elections that will herald new leaderships to further promote peace and smooth running of the domestic leagues.
“The league board from the chairman or chairperson must be elected by the club chairmen.
“The congress of Nigerian Professional clubs (men and women) should have the privilege to elect their board, no appointments, it’s an aberration, NFF should not appoint, let the 20 club elect their board members, but the board members should not be from the clubs,” he said.
“It is wrong when anyone denies clubs the opportunity to decide who leads the leagues.
“(Ex NFF President) Ibrahim Galadima gave us that opportunity when FIFA wrote to him that the Nigeria Premier League should elect their own leaders.
“The election should also be applied to other leagues that exist, allow them to be elected so we have peace.”
