The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named Nigerian referee Yemisi Akintoye among the match officials for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 5 to 26.
Akintoye, a member of the Lagos State Referees Council, is the only Nigerian female referee selected among the 46 officials appointed by CAF.
The list includes referees, assistant referees, and video match officials (VMOs) from across the continent.
A FIFA-listed referee since 2021, Akintoye recently participated in CAF’s preparatory training program for prospective WAFCON officials.
Following the successful completion of the course, she is now certified to officiate at the tournament.
CAF continues to emphasize high standards in officiating, and the selection of experienced referees like Akintoye stresses its commitment to raising the quality of officiating at its competitions.
The 2025 WAFCON in Morocco is expected to build on the momentum of previous editions, as women’s football in Africa continues its rapid growth and development.
